Young-Ae Yeon “Cheongju, now and today”
Cheongju is the city of Jikji and where the first metal type was used in the world. It is a city of cutting-edge transportation having Cheongju Airport and KTX Station. The city has been selected as the city of culture for East Asia.
I was inspired by “Mooshim-chun” stream that flows through the heart of Cheongju city and wanted to express my affection and interest in my work.
I am currently working at Seowon University, the school with 47 years of tradition, as art department faculty. I am both teaching students and engaged in creative activities. I collected sound as if collecting the air of Cheongju city and worked on sound project called “Cheongju, now and today”.
“Cheongju, now and today” is the time of meeting in my life in Cheongju where I am living today.
Waking up in the morning… going for a walk in early morning and listening to birds chirpping and the sound of the wind… going to school and talking to students… sometimes going outdoor for MT trip to hear the laughters of youth… stopping by at Ancient Printing Museum… or going to the nearby airport to listen to the sound from the sky… collecting the noises of the cars driving by the tree-lined street and the racing sound of fast running train from the KTX station.
The quiet sound of air just before the train arrives and the wind that blows after the train passes.
And Mushimchun stream.
I am feeling the wind in order to store the air of Mushimchun stream during the early morning walk.
Dawn. The sound of birds chirpping in the midst of clear air of the early dawn as day breaks and the stream water flowing is waking the sun up to rise.
