Descrizione:
Eduardo Reck Miranda, professor in computer music Faculty of Technology - University of Plymouth. "I am one of the creators of NUCOM, the Computer Music Group of the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC) and am actively engaged in the organisation of the Brazilian symposia on computer music since its first edition in 1994. I chaired the second symposium in 1995, held in Canela, Rio Grande do Sul. [Click here] to download a paper by Carlos Palombini about the origins of NUCOM, published in Leonardo Music Journal. I am a regular member of the papers reading panel of the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), organised by the International Computer Music Association, and have organised a number of workshops and academic gatherings, such as the first workshop on Artificial Life Models for Musical Applications (ALMMA), part of the European Conference on Artificial Life (ECAL), held in Prague, 2001. In 2006 I served as a member of the programme committee of the following conferences: 7th International Conference on Music Information Retrieva - ISMIR 2006 (Victoria, Canada), Special Track on AI in Music and Art of the 19th International FLAIRS Conference (Melbourne Beach, USA), 4th Audio Engineering Society - Brazil Conference (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 6th International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression - NIME 2006 (Paris, France) and 3rd Sound and Music Computing Conference - SMC 2006) (Marseille, France). Currently, I am the organizer of the Music-AL Workshop, part of the 2007 European Conference on Artificial Life (ECAL), which will take place in September 2007 in Lisbon. Other recent services to the community include membership of the review panel for the Alban Scholarships Programme (European Union Programme of High Level Scholarships for Latin America). My music is devoted to the quest for new forms of musical expression, independent of fashion and commercial tendencies. My academic background reflects my commitment to basing my compositions on coherent musicology and cutting edge technology. I like to experiment with a diversity of musical styles and modern media, with a view to creating new frameworks to foster and express multi-cultural practices".
